NIAGARA PENINSULA CONSERVATION FOUNDATION WELCOMES NEW BOARD AND STAFF AS IT PREPARES TO LAUNCH ‘NATURE FOR ALL, FOR ALWAYS’ FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN
At its June 29, 2023, Annual General Meeting, the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Foundation (NPCF) elected its new 2023-24 Board of Directors to lead it into an ambitious year ahead, which includes the launch of a three-year $5-million capital campaign to support the next-generation conservation work of the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA).
Diana Huson, Niagara Regional Councillor for Pelham, was elected as the Foundation’s Chair; Barbara Greenwood, former NPCA Board member and Niagara Regional Councillor for Niagara Falls, was elected Vice-Chair; and Donna Cridland, a citizen representative on NPCA’s Board of Directors and former councillor for the Township of Wainfleet, was elected Treasurer.
Local media personality Mike Balsom will also continue to serve as a director on NPCF’s Board, and two new directors – Brett Harrington from Hannon (Hamilton) and Doug Wilson from Fenwick (Niagara) – have also stepped up to lend their experience and support to the Foundation. Harrington is an investment advisor from the world of banking and Wilson is a professional accountant with experience in the wine and paper industries.
NPCF’s former Chair and Niagara Regional Councillor for Fort Erie, Tom Insinna, will also continue to serve as a Director with the Foundation after serving as Chair since 2020. His strong leadership and passion for community helped guide NPCF forward with a solid plan to establish the Foundation as the environmental charity of choice for the Niagara Peninsula watershed through the multi-year “Nature for all, for always” campaign.
“I would like to acknowledge Tom’s contributions as well as those of NPCA Board Chair, Rob Foster, for doing the important groundwork necessary to relaunch the Foundation,” says Diana Huson, NPCF Chair & NPCA Board Member.
“The last few years have been critical in setting the Foundation up for success in terms of identifying a path forward for our philanthropic and capital campaign goals to support the next-generation conservation work of NPCA. With the mounting pressures of climate change, and a renewed appreciation for our natural spaces, there has never been a more important time to focus on investing in the environment. I’m honoured to be part of the team that will lead this initiative forward.”
Funds raised by NPCF support the work of NPCA to protect and create healthy and climate resilient watersheds, to support sustainable growth across the Niagara Peninsula watershed, and to connect people to nature. Contributions are also used to plant trees, build trails, and enhance green infrastructure; educate youth and the next generation of environmental leaders; and secure and protect publicly accessible greenspace.
In early August, Sharon Pfeifer took on the position with NPCF as Development and Investor Relations Officer to support its fundraising goals. An avid volunteer with NPCA, Sharon has a passion for sustainability and environmental stewardship, and a background in fundraising, business development, marketing and communications.
